Wellness tips to Kick 2020 in the Butt
On this week’s episode, Donna & Sabrina covered 5 strategies to help you end the year on a healthy high note!
1) Stay hydrated
We started our presentation with HYDRATION because it really is one of the most important and easiest steps you can take towards better health. Remember, you should drink a minimum of 50% of your body weight in ounces each day. More if you workout and even more if you drink sugary beverages.
For example: if you weigh 140lbs then you should drink 70 ounces of water each day
2) Reduce stress
Learning how to manage and reduce stress is crucial to good health. Stress-free minds and bodies are more eager to take on the challenges of the day and to exercise! Strategies like meditation, deep breathing, journaling, listening to music, enjoying some fresh air, reading, knitting/coloring, etc. can go a long way towards improving your overall health.
3) Exercise
Add movement every day. Find exercises you can stick with and enjoy. Park at the end of the parking lot and walk. Exercise while watching TV. Take the stairs. Turn up your favorite music and dance. The more you enjoy working out, the more likely you are to stick to it.
4) Positive mindset
Staying positive is an incredibly important part of improving your health. Focusing on gratitude, setting goals, planning vacations or spending time with friends/family are great ways to improve your mindset and energize yourself! Even taking a shower, getting dressed, or putting makeup on despite quarantining or social distancing for COVID-19 can help you stay positive and feel more active than staying in your pajamas all day.
5) Eat quality food
The idea of “making healthy fun” applies to food as well! Try new recipes, turn to home-baked vs packaged snacks, meal prep and eat as a family, and diversify your diet to include more fruits and veggies. You don’t have to follow the same routines all the time! Feel free to look for healthy ways to spice things up.
BONUS) Remember to laugh
Laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts mood, diminishes pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh.
