Reduce Stress in 5 Minutes
There just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in a day to get everything done that needs done and this is especially true for women. Today’s woman wears multiple hats every day; we are wives, mothers, chauffeurs, maids, cooks and the list goes on. Despite all these responsibilities and all the others that go hand in hand with them we still manage to juggle a job (sometimes two) as well. By days end all we want to do is go home, put our feet up and relax but alas, a woman’s day is far from over. We still have to cook, clean, help with homework, get the kids in the bath and ready for bed. Whew, but it is not hard to see why there is no time left for us! We don’t always realize how important it is for us to have “me” time. Without it we put not only ourselves in jeopardy, but our families as well. If you are looking to free yourself from stress and want to have some fun, you’ve come to the right place. Although the thought of working out sounds both overwhelming and exhausting it can really be fun and relaxing too, but if you’re just starting out, you’ll need a few tools to help along the way.
With the help of some great exercise posters, it’s easy to begin a basic exercise regimen with just a few inexpensive tools that you can purchased online or at a retail store near you. If you want something a little different, there are some really cool alternatives to get you in the “get up and move” spirit that you can do for just 5 minutes, 5 times a day! Now all you need is to add in the radio playing your favorite music and you will be moving to the beat in no time flat! Naturally, exercising with a partner can bring the fun factor up a few notches, but for many reasons it’s not always an option so don’t let that stop you from relieving your stress, easing your mind, and having some fun. Don’t forget, all you need is 5 minutes at a time, a few times a day – it adds up!
First, let’s talk about the basics: fitness mats, dumbbells, and resistance cords.
Exercise is supposed to work our muscles, not be harsh on our joints and backsides! Fitness mats provide some extra protection for our elbows, knees and backsides that a hard floor or even carpeted just doesn’t provide on its own. Additionally, fitness mats are hypoallergenic and easily wiped clean with a gentle soap and water mix and stored away. Use the fitness mat to lie on, do sit-ups and push-ups on, and to stand on while preforming other exercises that require it like standing leg lifts. Jumping up and down on a fitness mat doing jumping jacks or using a jump rope will ensure your body has the impact cushion needed to avoid harsh wear and tear on joints and bones. Get your floor work on and check out some floor exercises from our ankle weight workout poster (you can do these without the ankle weights) and our mats!
Another excellent and fairly inexpensive exercise tool are dumbbells. Dumbbells are great space saving strength items. They take up far less space than other equipment like large barbells or other home work out machines. Additionally, dumbbells provide a full body workout not only targeting your arm muscles but also other stabilizing muscles like your core. Whole body workouts save time and work your muscle groups together so you aren’t lacking in any of the key areas of your body. Some beginner exercises to do with dumbbells can be found in these 50 dumbbell exercises! If you want something that can do everything that a dumbbell, medicine ball, or kettlebell can do, then check out the Fusion Fit Disc and get 3 tools in one.

When using resistance cords you get the benefits of strength training without the “weight”. These amazing light weight cords can give you the benefits of using 5-25lbs weights and you don’t have to lug some huge and heavy tool around in order to do it. What’s even sweeter is resistance cords are affordable and portable so you can tuck them into your suitcase and use them in your hotel room when on the road. Regardless of your fitness level there is a resistance cord for you from light, medium or heavy you are guaranteed to find a comfortable band for your workout and using Empower products ensures added safety, because we use shock cords instead of traditional tubing which can snap and break. Try the exercise below and then check out some more great exercises for resistance cords with this guide.
Now, let’s bring the fun factor up a bit!
SkipFit is like a jump rope, but it’s better:
Jump ropes are an old recess activity that is a staple in modern cardio workouts because of its effectiveness. Seeking similar results with an even more fun twist, Empower created SkipFit – another childhood favorite re-imagined with a comfortable ankle strap, shock cord, and soft ball on the end. This indoor/outdoor activity is not just fun, but can burn as many calories as running over 6 mph! To start, just slide the strap over your foot and around your ankle, hold the ball in one hand and toss it in a circular motion towards the foot that does not have the strap (this is so when it comes around again you can see it coming), and start skipping. Use the leg that has the strap on it to keep up the momentum. Remember the faster you go, the easier it is to keep on skipping! Want more info on SkipFit? Check it out here.
A great, fun way to spice up your basic workout routine in to try using a weighted fitness hoop. Varying your routine and stimulating your body in fresh ways helps it to develop and change. Another child’s toy that has in recent years been proven as an effective workout tool for adults who want to lose weight and tone their bodies. Using a weighted hoop has more benefits than just great cardio. It activates your arms, legs and core muscles. Hooping is a total-body cardio and strength workout that also improves joint flexibility and balance. The best part is that the rocking motion is also relaxing and fun, which can relieve stress. With a weighted hoop, you can do more than just hoop, check out the example below and then the workout guide for our Cardio Core Hoop and the video for Cardio Core & More.
